A Review: 3D Ultra Lionel Traintown Deluxe, PC 2000

Hello again and welcome. This is a review for the the game 3D Ultra Lionel Traintown Deluxe, a PC game aimed at children from 2000. 3D Ultra Lionel Traintown Deluxe is a toy train set puzzle game developed by Dynamix and published by Sierra Attractions for the PC in 2000. I found this game after looking for something that was similar to the old Railroad Tycoon titles on the Amiga and early Windows PCs. It was not at all what I was expecting and is basically set up as a giant train set, with a variety of tasks and puzzles to complete with varying amounts of difficulty. Ranging from easy ten-minute missions through to some seriously hard ones come the late game, that could take up to an hour or more to complete. From what I could find, 3D Ultra Lionel Traintown Deluxe did pretty well among the educational gaming community, managing to win the Computer Family Entertainment Title of the Year award from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences at the 3rd Annual Interactive Achievement ...

A Review: 3Xtreme, PSOne 1999

Hello and welcome once again. The review that I will be posting this time is for the game 3Xtreme, an extreme sports racing game for the PlayStation One.   3Xtreme is an extreme sports racing game developed and published by 989 Sports for the PlayStation One in 1999. This is one of those games that I found on a website sometime in late 2020 and thought would be worth playing. More than anything, it was because I had yet to play a game in my time that was from this genre. I've played plenty of racing games featuring bikes and roller skates, but more than anything, they were games aimed at kids in arcades or on the early Nintendo and Sega systems. None of those games were too serious or genre-focused, either. This was one of the first games that I found, with the focus being on extreme sports such as downhill mountain biking and road races featuring inline skates. The gameplay basically boils down to taking one of a fixed set of skaters or bikers and racing through various events an...

A Review: 3, 2, 1... Smurf! My First Racer, PSOne 2001

Hello and welcome.  Today I will be adding a review for the game 3, 2, 1,... Smurf! My First Racer.  A simple game, this one was originally released for the PlayStation One in 2001. However, through various online sources and an emulator, it can be played on home PCs.   3,2,1...Smurf! My First Racing Game is a kart racer developed by Artificial Mind And Movement and published by Infogrames, Inc in 2001. I found this game originally on the back page of a website that listed various ROMs and demo files for the old PlayStation One console. In all honesty, I'd never even heard of the game, nor did I even know that there was a kart racer using the Smurfs I.P. The gameplay is very simple and quite reminiscent of Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing in terms of mechanics and features. The player takes control of a character and races around various tracks, with the ability to collect and use a mixture of power-ups. I found this game to be a middle-of-the-road type of thing;...
I've been playing with the idea of making a blog for some time now, more than anything I want to leave something behind for those that care for old games like I do. In that regard I have many old titles that I may come to write about on this blog in the years to come, and if you like what you see here, maybe you would like to come back from time to time and give my ramblings a read. I intend to upload my first serious post in the coming weeks. I don't know if anyone will want to look at, or even care about what I have to say, but I guess it's worth a shot I suppose. If nothing else, at least I'll have something extra to do with my time.  😊 -- Wolf
